Pete Phillips is the Mission Readiness Manager for the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) Preparatory Project (NPP). He has worked with Goddard Space Flight Center for the last 12 years.
Phillips has supported DOD, NOAA, and NASA Earth-observing missions for 19 years in the areas of operations, engineering, acquisition and management. He has directly contributed to the successful early orbit checkout and safe on-orbit operations of 17 military and civil polar-orbiting operational environmental satellites, and has led the investigation and resolution of several major satellite and ground system anomalies. He has also contributed to the successful design, deployment, verification, operation, sustainment and upgrade of three major satellite ground systems.
Phillips has held positions including Flight Software Analyst, Flight and Ground Systems Engineer, Command, Control, and Communications Segment Lead Engineer, Operations and Sustainment Lead, and Ground Systems Chief Engineer prior to his current position.
In his spare time, Phillips is a youth baseball coach and active in his neighborhood homeowner's association. His favorite activities are walking, biking and camping with his wife of 18 years, Kara, and their four children.
